Tigers
A group of tigers is known as san ‘ambush’ or ‘streak’. The tiger is the biggest species of the cat family. Every single tiger in the world has their own distinct pattern of stripes and tigers use their distinctive coats as camouflage. They have thick orange, reddish coats with white bellies and white and black tails. The markings on a tiger’s fur are also found on their skin, so even a shaved tiger would still show its stripes. Their heads, bodies, tails and limbs have narrow black, brown or grey stripes. A tiger's tail is 3 to 4 feet long, about half as long as its body. Tigers use their tails for balance when they run and also use their tails to communicate with other tigers. Tigers have been known to reach speeds up to 65 kph (40 mph) and they can easily jump over 5 metres in length. Most tigers have yellow eyes and their night vision is about six times better than humans. Tigers mark their territories by spraying bushes and trees with a special mixture of urine and scent gland secretions. They also leave scratch marks on trees. Tigers are good swimmers. They seek out water to cool off during hot day Tigers usually hunt alone at night time.
