There are more than 300 breeds of horse in the world today, with a life expectancy of 25 to 30 years. A Colt is a male horse under the age of four. A female horse under the age of four is called a Filly. A Mare is a female horse four years old and older. A Stallion is a male horse four years old and older. Horses can sleep both lying down and standing up. The horse has the biggest eyes of any land animal and they use their ears, eyes and nostrils to express their mood. Horse hooves are made from the same protein that comprises human hair and fingernails. It is hard to tell the exact age of horses, but you can have the estimated age through its teeth. The basic measurement of horse height is known as a “hand.”
