Large Fish

Fish have been on the earth for more than 450 million years. They come in all shapes and sizes. Fish are covered in scales which are often covered in a layer of slime to help their movement through water. Relative to their body size, fish have small brains compared to most other animals. A fish can drown in water. Fish are cold-blooded, which means their internal body temperature changes as the surrounding temperature changes. Like humans, fish need oxygen, so if there isn’t enough oxygen in the water, they will suffocate. They have gills that extract oxygen from the water around them. Fish have a specialized sense organ called the lateral line which works much like radar and helps them navigate in dark or murky water.
