Deer
Male deer are called bucks. Females are called does and the young deer are called fawns. Deer are ruminants (cud chewers) and have a four-chambered stomach. They eat almost any plant. They graze on grasses, but they’ll also eat the bark of young trees. They especially love berries or vegetables from your garden. The male deer have antlers which fall off in the winter and grow back every year. Deer are usually shy and timid. It’s best to watch deer from a distance. Deer have a great sense of hearing. They can hear higher frequencies of sound than humans. The brown coat of the deer provides great camouflage in the woodlands. By standing still, they can go undetected. The life expectancy of deer is 20 years.
