Parrot

There are more than 350 species of Parrot. One of a parrot’s main features is its curved, broad beak, the top beak often larger than the lower one. Parrot beaks are not only large, they are also very strong. Parrots have zygodactyl feet. This means they have four toes on each foot, two facing forward and two facing backward. They are the only bird species that can use its foot to bring food to its mouth and sleep- rest on one foot. Most parrots are vividly coloured, and some are multi-coloured. Many parrots are intelligent and talk at the level of a four-to-five year old human making them a very popular pet. In the wild parrots are social birds that live in groups called flocks. They communicate with one another by squawking and moving their tail feathers. Parrots are able to see ultraviolet light, which is invisible to humans.
