Chameleons

The Chameleon has a body that is wide and appears to be puffed up. Chameleons belong to the lizard family. They have long tongues which they rapidly extend from their mouth, too fast for human eyes to see properly. Tongue projection occurs at extremely high performance, reaching the prey in as little as 0.07 seconds. Chameleons generally eat insects. The Chameleon is able to change the colour of the body. This allows it to have a method of hiding from predators as it will blend into the surroundings. Chameleon change colour for camouflage but this is not always the main reason. Some show darker colours when angry, or when trying to scare others. Desert varieties change to black when it’s cooler to absorb heat, then a light grey to reflect heat. Chameleons have amazing eyes. The bulging upper and lower eyelids are joined and the pupil peaks out from a pinhole sized gap.
