Cats

A group of cats is called a clowder, a male cat is called a tom, and a female cat is called a molly or queen while young cats are called kittens. The domestic cat would be classed as the world’s most popular pet. In ancient history the domestic cats were regarded as sacred at the time of the ancient Egyptians 4000 years ago. There are more than 70 cat breeds in the world today. Cats love gentle attention and respond to affection. Children can develop wonderful relationships with their cat as cats love to play, this is especially true with kittens. Cats are often valued by humans for companionship and for their ability to hunt vermin. Cats conserve energy by sleeping for an average of 13 to14 hours a day and spend a large amount of time licking their coats to keep them clean. They can be lethal hunters and very sneaky, when they walk their back paws step almost exactly in the same place as the front paws did beforehand, this keeps noise to a minimum and limits visible tracks. Cats also have excellent hearing and a powerful sense of smell and have powerful night vision.
